The bookends are from the region of France called Auvergne. This artwork is called mold encrustation.
An artist creates a mold, then copies of the molds are put on 28 meter high ladder-like constructions
inside caves and water from mineral springs is cascaded over them. Eighteen to twenty-four months later,
they end up with these calcite works of art. The two pieces depict a french grape harvest from centuries
ago. {Note: These calcite pieces have now been framed and are hanging on my dining room wall.}
